We’re a nonprofit working to enhance the Lakeview/OMI, Excelsior/Outer Mission, Crocker-Amazon and Mission Terrace neighborhoods through public/private partnerships, placemaking, activating the public realm, community cleanups, small business marketing support, neighborhood revitalization, food waste recovery and more.

Who are we?

OMI Cultural Participation Project is a 501(C)(3) nonprofit dedicated to empowering and uplifting the diverse communities of San Francisco District 11. Our mission is to foster cultural engagement, economic opportunity, and social equity, ensuring that the voices of historically under-represented groups are amplified and celebrated.

As a grassroots organization, we curate multicultural community events, programming and community outreach/engagement, that not only highlight the rich heritage of African American and BIPOC communities, but also create economic pathways to economic sustainability.

Our initiatives directly address systemic inequities by providing accessible arts and cultural programming, small business promotion/marketing, food waste recovery, and homeless outreach/case management in an area often overlooked in citywide cultural investments.

Through our work, we have impacted thousands of residents by fostering civic pride, intergenerational storytelling, and cross-cultural solidarity. From organizing community media campaigns to hosting signature cultural events—like the Ocean Avenue Car Show—we are committed to ensuring that District 11 and the broader San Francisco community remain vibrant, inclusive, and representative of all its people.

With increased investment and support, we aim to expand our reach, deepen our impact, and continue to be a catalyst for change: championing diversity, equity, and inclusion while building a stronger, more connected community.
